The abdominal x-ray exhibits a distended stomach, as well as dilated small bowel loops in the mid- and left-upper abdomen.
In addition to the above findings, there is also an area of gas overlying the right inguinal region, with the possibility of a right obstructed inguinal hernia.
The infant underwent an ultrasound scan of the abdomen, which revealed a normal pylorus, and confirmed the presence of a right inguinal hernia containing bowel loop with no upstream bowel obstruction.
The patient was admitted to the hospital and observed with gradual improvement in symptoms.
Make sure to have a look at the hernial orifices on the abdominal x-ray obtained to rule out an intestinal obstruction.
