This frontal chest x-ray is technically inadequate in terms of rotation, inspiration, and penetration. The obvious abnormality is the presence of a cavity in the left upper lobe.
In the presence of infective symptoms and a lung cavity, common and uncommon microbial infection should be considered; these include streptococcus pneumonia, staphylococcus aureus, gram negative organisms (e.g. klebsiella, pseudomonas) as well as fungal infection (e.g. aspergillosis) and tuberculosis.
